The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning is an online learning platform founded in 2003 by the coming together of seven Indian Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science. NPTEL offers university-level courses in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It is funded by the Indian Ministry of Human Resources and Development.
NPTEL courses are created by adapting material from lectures given by professors from participating institutions. The platform boasts the world's largest online repository of courses in engineering, basic sciences and selected humanities and social sciences subjects.
NPTEL is the most accessed library of peer-reviewed educational content in the world and has teamed up with Alison to create a suite of courses across five core disciplines: civil engineering, computer science, electronics, communication and mechanical engineering.
