Alison works in a very simple way: we source free courses. You create an Alison account, enrol in any courses you like and complete them as you have the time to do so. That’s it. We don’t charge you subscription fees, enrolment fees or anything to become a member of the global Alison family. There is a small charge if you want an official certificate proving that you have passed a course – this is a great idea to add to your CV or professional achievements but isn’t mandatory at all. Many of our students purchase optional certificates as a way of motivating themselves to study even more!
Why is public speaking important?
Being able to address a group of people and communicate your thoughts, wishes or needs to them is a vital communication skill. It is useful for many occupations – like education, politics, religion and sales – and can even help change the world. Just think of powerful speakers like Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela or Winston Churchill who inspired people to do great deeds.
How can I improve my public speaking?
The first thing to do is complete some foundational courses so that you understand basics like voice projection (so the audience can hear you), body language (which can turn people off or reinforce your point) and preparing a speech (so that you have structure and don’t ramble). Then, do some advanced courses in different types of speaking for the workplace or social occasions. Remember, the more you practise, the better you will be!
How many free online public speaking courses can I do?
As many as you like. There is no limit: if you want to do them all, you are allowed to do so. We believe in education for everyone so do not put any caps on the number of courses you can start or complete.
