With over 8 million graduates, Alison is one of the world’s largest certifying organisations. Our innovative approach to accreditation enables anyone to certify and verify their learning on any subject at almost any level for free.
Alison’s aim is to create universal standards of education and learning on every subject at every level. Our view is that access to knowledge and skills should be available to everyone regardless of nationality and should be a universal opportunity of empowerment. That’s why Alison is a non-institutional platform that directly bridges the gap between those with skills and those looking to gain skills.
It’s simple. Alison works with subject matter experts (SME’s) from education, business, industry and government agencies, on every subject for which it publishes content. These experienced professionals use their applied knowledge to create the courses on our platform. We then open up these courses to the world for free. This direct connection between the skilled and the upskilling allows us to speedily develop new courses and update existing courses in a fast moving world where knowledge isn’t static. Above all, it enables us to provide free access to the study of subjects to anyone who wishes to learn.
Continuing Professional Development, or CPD, is the process of continually developing or maintaining your professional skills. CPD helps individuals focus on how they can become a more competent and effective professional.
Due to our rigorous publishing review process, courses on Alison are now being accredited by CPD UK, an independent organisation. Accredited CPD training means the learning activity has reached the required Continuing Professional Development standards and benchmarks, and the learning value has been scrutinised to ensure integrity and quality. This CPD Certification Service provides recognised independent CPD accreditation compatible with global CPD requirements.
This means a certificate from a course on Alison can now be used as part of your CPD requirements (please check with your organisation’s guidelines).
NHCPS
NHCPS offers continuing education credits in ACLS, BLS and PALS certification and re-certification. These certified courses are jointly provided by the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM) and Save a Life by NHCPS. The courses have been designed to meet the educational needs of health care providers involved in the care of patients in cardiac arrest.
Once you successfully complete one of these courses on Alison, you can apply to the NHCPS for your continuing education credits. For more information go to NHCPS.com.
While the subject matter experts creating our courses ensure that the course content is up to date and contains the valued knowledge and skills of experienced professionals, Alison separately ensures that all courses maintain a consistent standard of pedagogic expertise, such that they are well-structured, easy to follow, and clearly communicate valuable information to the learner. The Alison Academy is a separate organisation within Alison that sets the standard for all Alison learning. Led by a team of traditionally qualified pedagogic specialists, they evaluate all courses published on the Alison free learning platform to make sure they adhere to an appropriate high standard. Where it is possible to do so, we match the standard of learning, whether at Certificate, or Diploma level, with national and other international standards.
The proof of the currency of Alison courses is with the employers who recognise the value of the knowledge and skills of learners who pass our assessments. Alison’s system of accreditation allows any employer, anywhere, at any time, to verify what someone knows or does not know at Certificate, or Diploma levels. With Alison, employers can instantly review the level of the course someone has done, or even review the entire course. This ‘here and now’ testing enables employers to take the tests that employees have taken, or to watch employees take these same tests again to show the knowledge and skills they have acquired.
This instantly demonstrates that someone who has an Alison certification has the skills and knowledge that should come with such a certification. What this ultimately means is that an Alison certification represents current and up-to-date competency. An Alison certification is always current because it can always be challenged by an employer who wishes to test the certificate holder. As such, an Alison certificate serves as a representation of skills and knowledge that the user currently holds.
What this amounts to is that employers do not have to “have faith” in an Alison certification.
Instead, the value of this certification can be proven to employers anywhere, anytime. The result:
Alison graduates get jobs. Over 50% of respondents to the Alison Learner and Graduate Survey 2017 stated their Alison certification had helped them find a job or a promotion.
These are people all over the world, from the USA to India, who are improving their lives with free learning. That’s quite an impact, but we aim to do even more. Our goal is to become the largest education certifier in the world. With more and more employers hiring Alison graduates every year, we’re well on our way.
