Description

This course begins by discussing the different types of maps that can be created using drones. You will learn how to plan out the flight of the drone for maps and look into the importance of image overlap, quality, and views in creating maps. You will also learn that lightweight GPS units enable drones to make spatially accurate maps. In Addition, this course will teach you about geometric correction, orthomosaic, and more.

You will then study the process of community mapping which is a form of participatory mapping that encourages community members to make their own spatial representations of their own land in a way that makes sense to them. This course will also discuss how cadastral mapping helps show the extent, value, and ownership of land. You will also look into geomorphological mapping, aerial thermography, and learn how thermal cameras can detect hidden archaeological sites, and more.

Drones can be used to make sophisticated maps and technology. Upon the completion of this course, you will gain a better understanding of the different types of maps that can be created using drones. You will also gain better insight into how GPS is used for creating maps with drones, the process of community and cadastral mapping, and more.
