The Diploma in Physical Fitness course introduces you to the basics of exercise physiology which studies how the body responds and adapts to physical exercise. The course teaches you about the cardiovascular system and its key role in supplying oxygen-rich blood to the active skeletal muscles during exercise.

    The course then describes three forms of physical activity, running, swimming and strength training that will help you develop physical fitness and core strength. You will learn how these exercises help you develop your overall strength and fitness. The course teaches you how to remain injury free by warming up, stretching, using the correct equipment and proper technique. You will examine the most common injuries experienced by those who engage in regular physical activity and learn how to identify, prevent and treat them.

    The course then teaches you how to develop muscular strength, speed and power by using flexibility techniques, calisthenics and plyometrics. You will gain an understanding of the effect that each of these exercise techniques has on the body, and you will examine sample exercises and stretches, to help you develop a program to improve your strength, flexibility and fitness.

    Finally, the course describes training in extreme environments and how to avoid injury doing so. The course teaches you about training techniques for different environments such as extreme heat, extreme cold and high altitude. You will learn the necessary precautions that must be taken in order to ensure that you train safely in each environment.
