Julie Kilpatrick is a lecturer in horticulture and editor of an online gardening magazine. She studied habitat surveying, and environment and development before running a landscape design and construction for several years. She later worked as a home composting advisor, helping local authorities to encourage and educate members of the public to compost their waste. She holds a TQFE (teaching qualification in further education).
Julie has taught horticulture in further education for over 17 years and specialises in horticultural practice and theory, as well as landscape design. She writes articles and edits guest posts for her online gardening magazine. She is the author of a book on the science behind horticulture and is working on her second book. She is a member of the Garden Media Guild in the UK and the Educational Institute of Scotland. She is also a trustee of the Scottish Allotments and Gardens Society.
As well as teaching full time, Julie writes on all topics of interest to gardeners, always with an eye on sustainability and organic principles. She delivers talks to horticultural societies and continues to produce the occasional garden design for select clients.
