Kids Can CAD Academy was born in 2017 in a community just north of Austin in Texas, USA. Its founder, Jenny Lineberger – a civil engineer, adjunct professor and mother of three – was looking to enroll her kids in a CAD (computer-aided design) summer camp programme. After checking with all the nearby school districts, she wasn’t able to find any summer camps for school-age kids that offered computer drafting, 3D modelling or 3D printing. She saw how much fun her kids had at home designing in 3D so she decided to start a CAD academy for kids in their school district. Kids Can CAD Academy is now a team of passionate engineers and educators who believe that awesome technology education should be available to children all over the world. The academy's mission is to help children develop the skills they need to become problem solvers and teach them 21st-century skills to prepare them to meet workforce demands.
Jenny Lineberger grew up in Spain and moved to the USA to study civil engineering at the University of Maryland. She then completed a Master's degree in information systems management from Bowie State University. In 2009 she began teaching civil drafting for engineers at Austin Community College in Texas where she continues to teach online courses. In 2017, Jenny decided to start Kids Can CAD Academy to introduce young children to the amazing world of 3D design and 3D printing.
Kids Can CAD Academy offers a wide variety of CAD courses for kids aged seven and up. They are designed to inspire students who want to become engineers, architects or any other type of designer. The academy offers a variety of services: online courses, live instructor virtual courses, summer camps, and teacher training in 3D design and 3D printing.
