Alison.com, one of the world’s largest free learning platforms for education and skills training, announces the launch of its Gentle Craftivism course. The free online course teaches learners how to use crafts as a tool for quiet, slow and effective activism.

Craftivism surfaced in the first few years of the 21st century to promote the relationship between craft and activism. Alison and Sarah Corbett, the founder of the Craftivist Collective, have partnered to create a course that focuses on Corbett’s unique ‘Gentle Protest’ approach to craftivism, that anyone can use (regardless of their craft ability) and add this tool into the activism toolbox alongside signing petitions or going on marches.

Sarah Corbett, Ashoka Fellow and award-winning activist and author, comments on the course: “We need to know when to ask questions, not only demand answers when to be quiet as well as when to speak up, and to figure out how to really channel the anger and sadness we have about injustice into strategic, thoughtful and loving activism that is effective.”

Alison is offering a four-module course consisting of; The Concept of Craftivism, Power in the Process, Power in the Product and Power in the Public Sphere. Alison believes in making a positive social change in hearts, minds, policies and laws. This course shows learners how activists can use handicrafts in a beautiful, cheerful and fair way, leading to a more successful outcome.

Mike Feerick, CEO and founder of Alison, says: “What I have seen is that people are keen to work in places with a social dimension to them, and do a job that has a bit more soul to it - how can we take that ground swell of humanity, liberate it and accelerate it? I believe we can do it through our courses.
