Alison has launched a revamped English Language Proficiency Test with a clearer test-taking experience, more detailed results, and recommendations designed to help Learners improve. The update builds on the original assessment introduced in 2021 and adds a new landing page, progress controls, skipped-question review, and score comparison across retakes.

The revised experience gives a test taker more information at each stage. Before starting, they can understand what the test covers and how CEFR levels are interpreted. During the assessment, they can see their progress and revisit skipped questions. After completion, they receive a fuller report that explains their score and recommends practical next steps.

A New Landing Page Sets Expectations Before the Test

The new English Language Proficiency Test landing page explains what to expect from the assessment, how the test can benefit a Learner, and what each CEFR level means. This gives test takers useful context before they begin rather than leaving the interpretation until the final screen.

CEFR, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, describes proficiency across a sequence of recognised levels. By explaining those levels in advance, the page helps Learners understand the scale their results will use and what a particular outcome represents.

Progress Controls Support a More Considered Test Attempt

The test interface has been updated with a new style, a progress bar, and clearer calls to action. These changes make it easier to understand how far a test taker is in their journey and what action is available at each point.

Test takers can now review questions they skipped before completing the assessment. That addition reduces the risk of submitting a test without noticing unanswered items and gives Learners a final opportunity to consider questions they chose to leave temporarily.

Together, the progress bar and skipped-question review create a more deliberate completion process. The interface helps a Learner manage the assessment from the first question to the final submission without changing what the test is designed to measure.

Detailed CEFR Results Explain More Than a Score

After completing the assessment, Learners now receive a more detailed score report. The report explains the result in CEFR terms and includes recommendations for improving their English proficiency.

The expanded report connects the numerical or level-based outcome with a clearer interpretation, helping Learners identify where their current proficiency sits on the CEFR scale.

The recommendations then give the result a practical next step. Instead of ending with a level alone, the updated report points Learners towards areas they can strengthen as they continue developing their English.

Retakes Make Improvement Visible Over Time

Learners can retake the English Language Proficiency Test and compare results across attempts. This makes the assessment useful beyond a single snapshot, allowing someone to check whether their proficiency has changed after further study or practice. 

The revamped test therefore supports a repeatable cycle of assessment, interpretation, targeted improvement, and reassessment. Learners can complete the test with greater control, understand their CEFR result more clearly, and return later to see how their English has improved.
