Active listening is arguably the most critical communication skill in the workplace. Are you a good listener? If you aren't a great listener and need to improve this area of your life, this course will significantly help. You will start by introducing a section called 'What is Listening?'. This section outlines active listening, its impact and the importance of listening in general. More importantly, you will try a couple of different activities to gauge your skill.

The second part of the course will consider some other approaches to listening. First, you will study ‘discriminative’, ‘comprehensive’ and ‘critical’ listening. As in the previous section, you will participate in exercises on these topics, which will help cement the concepts and help you appreciate their differences. Next, you must be aware of barriers to listening. These barriers can be physiological, environmental or attitudinal. We will also explain the other hurdles beyond these three types.

The final part of the course provides some essential advice. You will explore active listening tips and pointers you can use as a speaker to make it easier for someone else to listen to you.
