The subjects covered by ACT Math have been studied by most students by the end of their 11th-grade year. Most questions in the exam are self-contained while others may belong to a set of several questions. You might encounter several questions about the same graph or chart as you go along. The material covered on the ACT Math test focuses on the major fields that are prerequisites to successful performance in entry-level courses in college mathematics. There are a total of nine scores reported for the ACT mathematics test: a total test score based on all 60 questions and eight reporting category scores based on specific mathematical knowledge and skills. You may use a permitted calculator, although you are not required to since all of the problems can be solved without a calculator.
Eight reporting categories are addressed in the ACT mathematics test. These are the Preparing for Higher Math category with subcategories that include Number & Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability, the Integrating Essential Skills category, and the Modeling category.
