Course Information

Learn how to work with others and become an effective educational leader in this free online school management course.

Would you like to have a positive impact on your students' lives? Are you interested in transforming your school into a centre of excellence? Achieving this goal requires more than simply following traditional teaching methods. It requires a shift towards long-term developmental programmes that prepare students to tackle real-life challenges. Success requires teamwork as you can't do it alone! Collaboration among teachers, staff, governing bodies and parents is crucial. A collaborative educational leadership approach encourages everyone to work together to create an educational environment in which everyone can learn, grow and thrive. This educational management course suits educators looking to move into leadership roles. We explore the role of leaders and leadership in any educational setting and explain how to work collaboratively with teachers, students and parents to create a supportive learning environment for staff and students.

The course begins with an overview of the UK’s educational system and compares state and private schools. We lay out the four primary stages of education and outline the factors that determine when a student can leave school. We trace the diverse pathways available to school leavers that include higher education, professional training or apprenticeships. The course explains how to define your school’s ethos and why it should be included in the school prospectus. The key to improving a school’s performance is effective governance, funding, nurturing and support. We explore the roles and responsibilities of the school governors and members of the senior management team, which includes the principal, head teacher, teachers, Special Educational Needs co-ordinators (SENCos) and support staff. We show you how they work together to create a positive school climate and build meaningful and trustworthy relationships with students. The course then outlines the benefits of effective communication with children and explains how collaboration and teamwork help educators overcome challenges and solve problems facing their school.

The course then moves on to the legal aspect of running a school. We go over the statutory school policies on health and welfare, behaviour, discrimination and the sharing of a child’s information. We examine policies that cater to students with learning disabilities or gifted learners who possess particular academic or creative talents. Finally, we show you how to develop policies that align with your school's objectives and help you become a role model for your students. This course has no prerequisites and suits school leaders or anyone who aspires to become one. We explain how to create an educational environment that provides quality teaching for children and young people. Sign up to take your career to the next level as you learn how to bring out the best in those around you with leadership principles proven to encourage co-operation and excellence.
