Course Information

Discover the majesty and marvels of the stars, planets and other celestial objects in this free online astronomy course.

From the depths of the night sky to the incredible spectacle of the cosmos, astronomy offers a fascinating view into the universe that surrounds us. This course helps you understand the key theories and principles of astronomy. We begin with an overview of the history of astronomy since ancient times. We examine the ideas of the Hindus and Greek philosophers before going over the Ptolemaic System. We then move on to modern theories of the universe put forward by thinkers like Galileo and Copernicus.

The course’s next section is related to celestial mechanisms and distances. We compare two distinct points of view from which we can regard the different components of the solar system. We first discuss their mass, volume and total quantity of materials. We then explain gravitational force, often known as ‘gravity’, which causes objects to fall to the ground. The course then describes how far apart the planets are from one another as they orbit the sun.

We explore farther into the universe and investigate astronomical concepts like distances between stars defined by the perspective of time or a new order of spaces. The course also covers celestial measurements and measurement methods. Our final section discusses spectrum analysis and explains the role of light, refraction and spectroscopy, the study of the interaction between light and matter. The universe has fascinated us since we first looked upwards so sign up for this astronomy course to explore the stars.
