Course Information

This free online labour law course compares the basic employment laws, policies and procedures in the UK and USA.

This labour law course covers a wide range of topics concerning employment laws in the UK and USA. We outline the legal framework in which the USA’s employment law operates and discuss regulations at the federal, state and agency levels. The course then lays out the important policies that affect the protection of federal employees, including the minimum wage, family leave, unemployment insurance and medical coverage.

We then move on to the legal framework that defines the UK’s employment laws. We discuss health and safety regulations and legal maternity and paternity rights. We explain how to calculate statutory redundancy pay (SRP) in detail to help you understand your rights. We then evaluate the protection of employee rights during the COVID-19 pandemic in Britain. The course examines important government programmes designed for the pandemic, including the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS), Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), one-off payments and more.

This labour law course covers the significant changes to employee rights in the UK since the pandemic. We lay out employers' responsibilities to their employees both generally and during a national crisis like a pandemic. Finally, we conduct a comparative analysis of US and UK employment law. Whether you are a human resources professional, manager or worker, or simply want to understand labour law, this course is for you. It is particularly useful to employees who want to know their rights in the UK and USA.
