Learn how to estimate the quantities of building materials required for finishing interiors in this free online course.
This construction course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills required to estimate the quantity of materials needed for a building project. We also explain how to carry out finishing works such as plastering, painting, puttying, flooring and other related tasks. We explore the fundamentals of building materials quantity estimation and show you how to prepare Excel sheets, make brickwork calculations and deductions using AutoCAD and employ manual techniques.
We then focus on estimating the practical aspects of the building project, including the walls and ceiling plastering for the complete building. We go into the ‘IS 1200’ standard regarding plastering deductions and discuss how to make accurate plastering estimations of the building's outer, inner, parapet and ceiling. The course also discusses how to measure and estimate how much paint and putty is required for interior finishing.
Finally, we demonstrate how to estimate the quantities of different types of concrete and waterproofing required, including lintel, sill and chajja (sunshade) concrete. Akshay Kamath, who has over five years’ experience in construction and design, is the publisher of this course and has trained over a thousand students on construction principles and practices. This construction course provides the knowledge and skills required to estimate the quantity of materials for a building project by hand or with Excel and AutoCAD.
