This free online course will teach how to structure and conduct Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ACT) sessions.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) aspires to support clients in accepting challenging ideas, emotions, sensations, and inner experiences while assisting them in making commitments to behaviours based on their beliefs. This course aims to introduce you to the foundation of ACT. It starts by defining ACT and its core message, aims and application. The six core processes of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy will be discussed. Also, you will learn about the approach of ACT.

The following section will discover the concept of experiential avoidance and its role in ACT. How to structure your counselling sessions and set client treatment goals will be understood. You will then be able to find out more about how to understand your client's problem. The concept of creative hopelessness plays a crucial role in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Also, you will learn about its aims, methods, when to use it, control strategies and intervention.

The following sections will teach you about cognitive defusion and techniques for identifying it. Next, you will understand the six core processes of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. Acceptance, present moment, values, committed action, self as context and cognitive defusion will be explained in detail. Also, you will learn about mindfulness skills and different relaxation techniques. Abdominal breathing, body scan meditation, cue-controlled relaxation and basic breathing mindfulness will also be comprehended.
