Course Information

Explore the laws and regulations that protect data and consumer rights in Europe and the UK in this free online course.

Have you ever felt cheated as a consumer while purchasing goods or services from a seller? Were you successful in enforcing your right to justice? This course will introduce you to the concept of consumer rights and how they are enforced. We start by explaining consumer awareness and why the United Kingdom’s Consumer Rights Act of 2015 was enacted. Next, you will learn about consumer contracts and their importance in dispute resolution. In addition, we'll show you the important information you need to obtain before buying any goods or services. No matter how smart you are, you can be deceived and being able to identify the early signs of fraud can save you valuable time and money. Discover the four main stages of fraud and the techniques fraudsters may use at each phase to deceive you.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European Union data privacy law that gives citizens control over how their data is used or processed. We'll review the EU’s GDPR's structure, key functions and basic legal requirements for data processing before outlining the consequences of violating data-related regulations. One needs to have a legitimate and lawful basis for processing personal data. Learn about the six main lawful bases, including consent, legal obligations and vital interests of an individual. A ‘data subject’ is any individual who has their data collected or processed by an organisation. You'll learn about data subjects' rights under the GDPR, the everyday activities that can lead to our providing our personal data to third parties and the consequences of data breaches. We then cover the responsibilities and obligations that organisations must comply with under the GDPR.

We designed this course for people who want to build their knowledge of consumer rights for a better and more transparent shopping experience. It is also helpful for individuals who process and handle people's personal data and need to keep up with government regulations as third parties. It requires no prerequisite knowledge or skills and covers the latest relevant rules and regulations in the consumer market in simple language. In the ever-changing world of capitalism, consumer rights and data protection legislation are more relevant than ever. A sound understanding of consumer rights and data protection can help you in case of a legal proceeding and whenever you need to exercise your fundamental rights as a consumer. Join this course and learn your rights as a consumer.
