This course aims to teach you about the roots and impact of the French Revolution, Napoleon's ascension and importance, and the Congress of Vienna of 1815. It starts by introducing the class and the tax system in France and their effect on the Third Estate. At the same time, you will get a glimpse of the daily life of Marie Antoinette and Louis XIV and how they lived in the luxurious Palace of Versailles.

You will discover how the Reign of Terror destabilized the revolutionary movement, led to the fall of the Republic, and opened the door to Napoleon's authoritarian takeover. The revolutionaries in France convened a new government, organized as a National Assembly, and wrote the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, one of the most important documents for the rights of all peoples. You will also study the Declaration of the Rights of Women. The primary sources of the French Revolution and counter-revolution will be explained.

Also, you will learn about the last stages of the French Revolution and how Napoleon Bonaparte was able to overthrow and replace the French Directory with the French Consulate. Napoleon's government, The Napoleonic Code, The Concordat of 1801, and primary sources on the rise and impact of Napoleon will be comprehended. Further, you will learn about the partitioning of Poland, how the United States benefited from Napoleon's reign and the Congress of Vienna.
