What is your main goal on Alison?
Do apprentices have to study?
Yes. In the UK 20% of an apprentice’s working hours should be spent in studying off the job. You are free to use online training providers like Alison.com to enhance or support your training.
How long do apprenticeships last?
You can choose how long the apprenticeship will last, based on the difficulty of the training. The most basic, intermediate apprenticeship may last one year, however, higher apprenticeships can last several years.
How much do apprentices get paid?
This depends on the area of work and the age of your apprentices. The minimum wage in the UK changes from year to year.
What rights do apprentices have?
Your apprentice has the same entitlements as the rest of your workforce with regard to sick pay and holiday pay.
Can I employ a student as a part-time apprentice?
No, apprentices must be available full time.
Can you get an apprenticeship at 15 in the UK?
Apprentices must be over 16 years but there is no upper age limit.
What happens at the end of an apprenticeship?
There are different apprenticeship rules in each part of the UK so check the regulations in your area. In England, employers must register their apprentices at the start of the training for an End Point Assessment (EPA) with an independent End Point Assessment Organisation. The EPA can be taken online.
