This diploma is the first of three courses to help you understand chemistry and pass your A-level exams. The course covers periodic elements and thermodynamics and includes a range of important topics. Firstly, you will explore entropy, a measure of disorder in a system. You will learn about its connection to the second law of thermodynamics and how it influences the direction and spontaneity of chemical reactions. Next, the course introduces you to Gibbs free energy, a critical concept in thermodynamics. In addition, we examine the properties and behaviour of nitrogen and sulfur and their unique characteristics, roles in biological systems and their various industrial applications. You will learn about these compounds and the reactions associated with them before we introduce you to transition elements. Investigate their distinctive electronic configurations, properties, and significance in coordination chemistry and catalysis. We will analyse the oxidation states, complex formation, and applications of transition metals in industries such as medicine and materials science.

Lastly, we introduce organic chemistry, the basics of organic compounds, including the structure and properties of hydrocarbons, functional groups, and organic reactions.
