Elementary English 209

Learning English can be daunting so Alison has designed a progressive set of courses to guide you in learning English step by step. We have developed a set of 'Basic English' courses for the beginner learner, which we suggest you complete before moving onto the ‘Elementary’ series. This course, 'Elementary English 209’, begins by teaching you the vocabulary related to restaurants. You will learn the headings on a menu and how to order from the wine list confidently.

The following two topics concentrate on improving your grammar skills. We begin by recapping definite and indefinite articles and when to use them. We go over countable and uncountable nouns before discussing when to use 'much' or 'many' when talking about quantities. Next, we will clarify when to use 'some' in the affirmative and 'any' in negative sentences, both of which you can use when asking questions. Discover when to use the following words: 'something’, 'anything’, 'nothing’ and 'everything’ before we introduce the coordinating conjunctions 'and' and 'or’. 

You can then practise all the new words, phrases and grammar points you have learned in the previous topics. You will read an article about a new restaurant, study its menu and answer questions relating to both. We encourage you to download the writing activity from the ‘Resource’ section to practise your English writing skills.
