Elementary English 208

This ‘Elementary English 108’ course rapidly increases your vocabulary and ability to converse in English to give you confidence while speaking the language. If you have limited English, we encourage you to start with our ‘Beginner English’ series and then build up to this course by moving through the ‘Elementary’ series in the correct order. The first section of this course discusses cleaning supplies and explains that you can use certain words as nouns or verbs. For example, a mop is an object (noun) but you can use it as a verb to ‘mop (verb) the floor’. Although these nuances can be confusing, this course will take you through each so you won’t get confused.

The second and third section discusses grammar rules using the new words you have learned to help your understanding. First, we review both positive and negative imperatives and discuss the function of direct object pronouns and their placement in sentences. Next, we introduce phrasal verbs and explain their meaning and function. The most common phrasal verbs used in the home are ‘turn on’, ‘pick up’, ‘clean up’ and so on. Finally, we end this section by outlining where to place direct objects in phrasal verbs.

Finally, we help you to polish your listening and reading comprehension skills. Our ‘Resources’ section includes exercises to help you practice English and our video tutorials show you how to correctly pronounce these new words as you try them out in the home.
