The course Japanese Language: Introduction to Japanese Conversation will introduce you to different conversational phrases, including how to ask basic questions such as "How are you?" and "What is your birthday?".

The course contains a series of lessons that demonstrate how to construct a particular sentence in Japanese such as "Let’s go for a picnic". You will learn the formal and informal methods of asking these questions, as well as using adjectives, the past negative, and particles. From there, you will practice using different parts of speech to increase your understanding, learning new ways of using the past tense in the process.

Lessons end with brief introductions to new Kanji, expressions, and vocabulary that will further increase your knowledge of the Japanese language.

This free online course will be of great interest to students of the Japanese language, people travelling to Japan for business or on vacation, or even someone who is simply interested in Japanese culture.

PREREQUISITE: This course is the fourth in a series of four courses on the Japanese language. Prior to beginning this course, you should have completed Japanese Language: Introduction to Japanese Scripts and Japanese Language Course: Introduction to Japanese Phrases, and Japanese Language: Time and Parts of Speech.

After completing this course in Introduction to Japanese, you will:

  • Identify the meanings of different Japanese conversational phrases;
  • Differentiate between the location-describing words for living and non-living things;
  • Conjugate using the past negative;
  • Differentiate between the words "-masen ka" and "masho";
  • Discuss how the conjunction "soshite" and “”to” are used;
  • Identify the meanings of several kanji characters and Japanese words;
  • Define the meaning of the suffix "-goro" and how it should be used;
  • Differentiate between "i-adjectives" and "na-adjectives";
  • Define the meanings of several new Kanji characters and vocabulary.
