There are many misconceptions about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Some believe that it’s been going on for thousands of years, or that it’s just about religion, that it’s so entrenched that nothing will ever change and true peace is impossible. In order to evaluate the situation in Israel and Palestine today, it is important to understand the historical roots of the modern conflict. This course uses three key dates (1917, 1948 and 1967) to organize the important actors and events that shaped the origins of this conflict. This course unpacks the significance of these dates and explains how and why Israelis and Palestinians interpret and relate to these events differently.
