Corrective techniques for the nose. Too long: To shorten the nose, you will apply a dark shadow underneath the nose and over the tip of the nose. Be sure to blend it very well. Too short: Apply a highlighter right under the nose and on the tip of the nose. Too narrow: Apply a highlight to either side of the nose and thoroughly blend. Too wide: Apply a shadow on both sides of the nose and then a highlighter down the center, going from top to bottom. Remember that lighter colours enhance and darker colours hide. Your client may express that they think their nose is too big or too small or some other issue. You can use these cues to choose how to apply their makeup. Ask them if there is anything that they don’t like about their appearance. Don't say that their nose is too big. Let them tell you what they are unhappy with and then apply the techniques to fix it. Try not to let them see their face until it is all done. Then it will really amplify the changes you have made. You can even explain to them what you are doing, while you are doing it. However, it is probably best to keep your secrets to yourself, so you will get another appointment! When you have mastered your techniques, see if some of your clients will let you take a before and after photograph, for your portfolio. You will need a wider selection of products to produce corrective makeup. It is probably something you should master after you have become an experienced general makeup artist. Consider working with a mentor, who has mastered these techniques before you start offering your services. Applying corrective makeup is mostly like applying regular makeup. The only difference is in the colors that you choose. However, there are special contouring brushes for this type of work. Any tool that allows you to apply and blend the makeup is likely going to work.
