Award-winning Vocal Talents
Our free online Irish Traditional Sean-nós Singing courses are brought to you by Nell Ní Chróinín, the vocalist with the internationally renowned Irish traditional band Danú.
Nell is a native Gaelic speaker from the Co Cork Gaeltacht area of Múscraí or Muskerry, where there’s a strong sean-nós (old style) singing tradition. She began singing as a child and grew particularly attached to the songs of Elizabeth Cronin, who had lived in the same area and died in the 1950s.
Nell began entering competitions and with her clear, melodic voice, had numerous successes at local and national levels. In 2014, she became the youngest person ever to win the national ‘Corn Uí Riada’ competition. This prestigious prize was all the sweeter as she was the first singer to win it from the same area as the legendary Seán Ó Riada, whom the competition honoured.
An experienced teacher, Nell often runs workshops at music festivals as well as performing at festivals in the USA and Europe and beyond with Danú.
