Description

In this course, you will learn about the I-V relationship of a diode, the Shockley model, as well as the input and output voltages of two diode circuits. The reverse conduction of a diode, peak detector circuit, and also a voltage doubler circuit will also be covered in this course.

Then, this course will teach you about an introduction to half-wave and full-wave diode rectifiers. You will also learn about charging and discharging of a filter capacitor, and also, average and peak diode currents. Lastly, this course will teach you about an introduction to the types of BJT, a simple BJT circuit, as well as Ebers moll's model of a BJT.

This course is helpful for learners who want to understand the principles behind diode circuits. The course will teach about how diode circuits are designed and the necessary parameters that need to be obtained when designing. Start this course now to understand the working principles of diode circuits.

Learning Outcomes

Having completed this course, you should be able to:

  • Discuss the operations of a diode and the current-voltage relationship in a diode.
  • Examine how to plot the output voltage as a function of time for a specific input voltage waveform.
  • Discuss the effect of the reverse breakdown of a diode on the current-voltage curve.
  • Identify the principles of the peak detector circuit and a clamper or a level shifter circuit.
  • Discuss the general functionality of rectifier and the meaning of the terms half-wave and full-wave rectifiers.
  • Examine the charging and discharging of the filter capacitor.
  • Identify how to estimate the maximum current that flows through a diode.
  • Examine the behaviour of the Bipolar Junction Transistor or the BJT.
  • Discuss how the BJT can be represented for generalized biased conditions using the Ebers-Moll model
