A Top Traditional Irish Guitar Player
Highly regarded among his fellow musicians, Michael McCague is a gifted songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He has been a member of the bands At the Racket, Téada and At First Light and includes accompanying legendary flute player Matt Molloy in a live performance among his career highlights.
Michael wrote the music for his debut album, The Waylaid Man, which was very well-reviewed and featured performances by top musicians John McSherry and Nollaig Casey among others.
From a well-known musical family in County Monaghan, he usually performs with his brothers, Donal, Sean and Connor with Donal, who plays fiddle, being a former Young Irish Musician of the Year. Michael began his musical journey learning the tin whistle and fiddle before discovering the bouzouki and more recently the guitar, which he plays using the Drop D tuning favoured by traditional Irish musicians.
He now lives in Galway, on the west coast of the country.
