Introduction to Oscillation

This course begins by explaining the different fundamental concepts behind sound, the propagation of sound and the transportation of the energy generated. You will learn about the basics of acoustics, sound reflection, transmission, absorption, attenuation as well as the mathematical expressions of reverberation time. You will also be introduced to the concept of mechanical vibrations.

The course then explains the generation of sound and the transmission of sound. You will also learn about the human perception of sound. You will learn about the function of a simple oscillator. You will also be introduced to the fundamentals of linear vibrations and the mathematical expressions of energy of vibration. You will learn about the effects of potential energy and kinetic energy on simple harmonic motion. You will also learn about the complex exponential method of solution.

You will be introduced to the significance of the concept of mechanical resistance, mechanical impedance and the different kinds of suspension system. You will learn about mechanical resonance and the application of instantaneous power. You will also be introduced to damped and forced oscillation as well as overdamped and underdamped oscillation. You will learn about mechanical resonance and mechanical to electrical conversion/equivalent electrical circuits. You will also learn about Kirchhoff’s loop rule and the different types of cascading.
