SDG 1 is the first of 17 goals set by the United Nations to create greater equality across the world while protecting the environment. Sustainable Development aims to support people and the planet.

Each of the goals has specific targets that could achieve radical change in the world by 2030. the case of goal 1, the targets can be summarised as follows:

- Eradicate extreme poverty for all people living on less than $1.25 a day and halve the number of people living in poverty according to their national definitions

- Implement social protection systems for the poor and the vulnerable

- Ensure that all men and women have equal rights to economic resources and access to basic services

- Build the resilience of those who are vulnerable to shocks and disasters

- Mobilise resources for least developed countries to implement programmes and policies to end poverty

- Create policy frameworks to support accelerated investment in poverty eradication actions.
