A passion for Irish Traditional Music
Dublin born Doireann Ní Ghlacáin has been playing the fiddle since the age of 3 years and is from a family of accomplished fiddle players. The granddaughter of the famous Irish composer and musician Seán Ó Riada, she is the perfect candidate to teach this fiddle guide.
A native Irish speaker, or Gaeilgoir, Doireann presents the Irish TV station TG4’s live coverage of the annual Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann (a national Irish music festival), among other programmes. As a professional musician, Doireann is at the heart of the current Irish Traditional music scene. Her album, Housekeepers, which she recorded with her friend Sarah Flynn, celebrates five gifted female musicians of the 20th century whose talents and achievements had not been fully recognised.
Her respect for her heritage drives her passion for passing on the unique playing techniques that contribute to traditional music’s distinct sound and ensuring that this vital genre continues to thrive into the future.
