Office Of The Future
Alison is headquartered at the former Monastery of Mount Carmel in the town of Loughrea, County Galway in the West of Ireland. Housing the Carmelite Sisters since 1828, the beautiful buildings and gardens of Mount Carmel have found a new lease of life as our global base.
Mount Carmel – The Home of Alison
In the mid-nineteenth century, Loughrea was in need of a girl’s primary school. The Carmelite Sisters who lived in the monastery made it their mission to provide the town with this school. Almost 200 years later, education is once again the focus at Mount Carmel. A great coincidence indeed!

As a digital platform business, we realised many years ago before all our team started working remotely, that the importance of an office or HQ was not providing a place to sit and work, but a place to inspire and enjoy together, and where creativity and friendships could be fostered.

We are proud to continue the legacy of the Carmelite Sisters in trying to make the world a better place, and this wonderful location inspires us. We look forward to welcoming our staff and someday many of our graduates from around the world to Mount Carmel in the years ahead.

As a for-profit social enterprise, Alison is always looking for ways to make a social impact. The restoration of the monastery presented an opportunity to protect the cultural heritage of the buildings and gardens, have a very modern place to work and meet when required, and also provide access to its lands and gardens for recreation for local community enjoyment.
Why We Have An Old Monastery As A HeadQuarter
As a for-profit social enterprise, Alison is always looking for ways to make a social impact. The restoration of the monastery presented an opportunity to protect the cultural heritage of the buildings and gardens, have a very modern place to work and meet when required, and also provide access to its lands and gardens for recreation for local community enjoyment.
A Temporary Home For Refugees
At the moment, we don’t use the accommodation part of the Monastery. The war between Russia and Ukraine has left many Ukrainians displaced and to help them, we opened our doors to refugees in the short-term as part of Ireland’s response to this international emergency. Empowering people can be done by many means, not least providing a safe space to those who need it in a crisis.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has left many Ukrainians displaced and to help them, we opened our doors to refugees in the short-term as part of Ireland’s response to this international emergency. A Glimpse of Mount Carmel Across Seasons
The gardens at Mount Carmel were designed to be a place to bring peace and contemplation to those who visited. The gardens are large and spacious, and while most of us at Alison work on laptops much of the day, when we visit, it is simply delightful to take a break and walk the gardens and be close to nature. together, and where creativity and friendships could be fostered.
