Design Specifications - Lesson Summary
The characteristics that a Metric for a Need should have are:
Metrics should be complete
Metrics should be dependent and not independent variables
Metrics should be practical
Subjective metrics can be considered
Metrics should include popular criteria for comparison in the market
The Quality Function Deployment transforms customer needs into engineering characteristics of a product or service. It prioritizes each product/service characteristic while simultaneously setting development targets for product or service development.
A graphical representation called House of Quality is used in QFD as a clear summary statement of the product specifications and supporting data consisting of benchmarks, target values, and technical difficulty.
The correlation of technical relationships to determine interrelationships of design requirements is the last step in the development of a House of Quality.
The steps to follow when Identifying Target Values for Metrics are:
Benchmark on customer needs
Establish target specifications
Set ideal and marginally acceptable values for a metric
Reflect on the results
