In this media, you will learn about stem – leaf graph.
A stem – leaf graph is a method which is used to display data.
The stem – leaf graph groups the data with single data values.
A group of 15 students were asked to record the marks they scored in mathematics.
The marks of 15 students are: 52, 66, 47, 35, 72, 66, 86, 72, 40, 65, 90, 96, 58, 65 and 81.
Now, lets form the stem – leaf graph from these data.
From the data we can see that, there are two-digit numbers.
So, choose the digits in tens place as stem and unit digits in one’s place as leaves.
To construct the stem leaf diagram there are four steps.
Step – 1: List the stems starting from 9 to 3 one under other and draw a vertical line to the right.
That is, enter the tens digits from the given data.
Step – 2: Write its leaves(i.e. unit digits) to the right side of the vertical line.
Step – 3: Enter all the leaves to the corresponding stems.
Step – 4: Sort the leaves in numerical order after each stem.
And, now you know how to construct the stem leaf plot.
