This is an anodic half cell where oxidation takes place. This is cathodic half cell containing copper sulphate solution and reduction takes place.Zinc sulphate solution is taken in the anodic half cell.Zinc electrode acts as anode and copper electrode act as cathode.A salt bridge is introduced in between two half cells.Transfer of electrons takes place through the salt bridge.Electrons are lost in the anodic half cell and gained in cathodic half cell. The potential associated with each electrode is called electrode potential. The potential measured at 1 atm and 298K is called standard electrode potential.
