Good morning friends and welcome to NPTEL online lectures on effective writing. You might be thinking about what actually is effective writing and how is it going to be beneficial for you and why should you join. It's quite natural majority of us think like that you need not join this course because you are not an effective writer but then you should join this course because you have to make your writing even better even more effective. There are several ways to make your writing effective and as a professional either working in an organization or likely to join an organization you may from time to time feel or you may be given the chance to write things and you're writing counts now what are the things that you're supposed to write. You're not going to write your stories, you're not going to write here, it says but you're actually going to write things which actually are important from the business point of view and when you talk about writing for business purposes, it is different from other forms of writing .
This course will actually expose you to various forms of writing but then the focus will be on making them effective and effective writing is not confined only to the writing of words and sentences and paragraphs but effectiveness is ensured by providing clarity, consistency, by providing unity coherence, by providing a sort of readability and this course which caters to the pledge in their needs. We'll talk about not only business writings but we'll also talk about the various documents that one has to while being in an organization like writing letters, writing proposals, writing reports writing memos, writing for academic things like research papers writing scientific documents now all these writings they are different from other forms of everyday writing, in the sense that, a writer you have also to see or you have also to take into consideration the readers background the readers accessibility the readers knowledge the readers six the readers age and the readers exposure to the outside world for that Neutrality being the hallmark of all writing as a writer you have to see that whatever you write you are writing innocence.
Innocence meaning thereby you're writing for those whom you do not see but then you have to convince of course this is challenging but every challenge has got a remedy and you as a writer can provide remedy by looking for words that work by looking for words which are ordinary yet extraordinary by going for words which are not abstract but then concrete by going for words which are not grand but familiar by going for words which are not foreign but then general and not only the words but the sentences to because it so happens that people at times being an organization they actually develop taste for those words which they use every now and then but these words may not be understandable to people of the outside world and people of the outside world are not able to understand the way you use Jagan's the way you use places the way you use redundant expression the way you use foreign words the way you use breathless sentences the way you use longer paragraphs so all these actually have to be taken into consideration while you are writing for a specific purpose and also the readers background because your readers or your audience will not be confined only to your organization there can be outside people have said and those outside people may have different tastes different experiences different exposures different cultures so you have to place your writing in such a way that you are writing it in a very neutral manner without affecting anyone's sensibilities anyone's beliefs anyone's religion or anyone's ideas so in order to make your writing effective the course also offers you not only 20 modules but all these modules have been planned in such a manner that they are not only interactive but they are understandable and apart from the lectures the course will also have assignments after every one or two lectures there'll be assignments that will come across and based on that you will also not only learn but you will raise your own knowledge you will measure your own knowledge and towards the end of the course you will also be expected to appear at an examination if you registered for the examination and in in-between before the examination there'll be some online sessions where you can place all your queries and apart from that we have also online portals and these portals you can put all your queries and the queries will be answered by the tiers and also by the professor that is myself so if you feel that you need to develop some sort of Ness in terms of writing I do not mean to say that you are not an effective writer you are effective but you actually have to make your writing more effective because you will be counted your words will be counted your sentences will be counted and in order to survive today you also have to see that your writing is given some wittich your writing enables people to take action your writing enables people to provide solution and that you can do if you can provide a patient hearing to all these lectures and can see that they are implemented when it comes to your writing so all those who have done other courses nptel are also expected in supposed to join the course on effective writing so that they can have a better lease of life and they can write clearly effectively and lucidly in order to convince in order to make people understand in order to enable people to take decision in order to make the world and yourself happy and satisfied thank you very much.
