Health and Fitness - Calisthenics
In this module you studied the following:
Calisthenics is a form of exercise in which no other equipment is needed but your body. Your body provides all the resistance needed.
Muscle strength is the amount of force generated by one repetition and muscle endurance is the ability to exert force repeatedly over time.
Improving muscle strength will improve muscle endurance.
Muscle strength is developed by performing low-repetition (6-12), high-resistance exercises.
Muscle endurance is developed by performing high-repetition (12-20), low resistance exercises.
Many experts contend that much of the low-back pain in the athletes is due to an overabundance of hip flexor calisthenics.
A balanced calisthenics workout incorporates abdominal, hip flexor and hip extensor exercises.
Proper technique is important when performing all calisthenics.
When performing abdominal exercises on a flat surface you are limiting your exercise to only half the normal abdominal range of motion.
Calisthenic exercises can be modified to provide a strength workout by increasing resistance, using a training partner, or some other source of added weight.
