Factors Affecting Organizational Capacity for Change

Leadership and Management

What is Organizational Capacity for Change?

Introduction

Organizational capacity for change (OCC) is the overall capability of an organization to prepare for or to respond to an increasingly and volatile environmental context.

This overall capability is multidimensional, and it comprises three ingredients:

Human skill sets and resources.

Formal systems and procedures.

Organizational culture, values, and norms.

As such, OCC is a dynamic, multidimensional capability that enables an organization to upgrade or revise existing organizational competencies, while cultivating new competencies that enable the organization to survive and prosper.

Introduction (Continued)

Being able to adapt to change is a trait that any organization with high aspirations of success must possess. Should they not they face the risk of becoming irrelevant in the market place.

It comes as no surprise that CEOs world wide, make extraordinary efforts to ensure that their organizations possess a strong Organizational Capacity for Change.

However many businesses fail to do so by neglecting certain factors.

OCC is a strong indicator of whether or not an organization will survive through change!
