"Evidence" that LSD can cause genetic damage comes from studies in 1967 performed in vitro and with obvious bias. This is a misleading statement (and not referenced), and there is no evidence that LSD use actually causes genetic changes in the user; it was simply a statement which the US government in the 60s were happy to support as it fitted with their agenda. "The available data suggest that pure [LSD] does not cause chromosomal abnormalities, spontaneous abortions, or congenital malformations" Briggs GG, Freeman RK, Yaffe SJ. Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation: A Reference Guide to Fetal and Neonatal Risk. (Ninth Edition) Philadelphia: Lippincott Williams and Wilkins; 2011, p860
