Exercise is psychologically beneficial and can be a form of therapy en lieu of medication depending on the issue. Mild to moderate depression has been reduced with regular exercise across all ages and sexes. Exercise should be prescribed for all depression and anxiety cases in addition to other forms of treatment.

It can be difficult to find the motivation at first. Personally, I found that it is a matter of taking it one step at a time. I started by taking a slightly longer route home from the supermarket (I don't drive) and then gradually increased that from there. Same with any other time I need to go out for something - I try to take the longer routes and get some exercise while I'm at it.
