Support is a wonderful avenue for those suffering from mental illness. They feel they are not alone and are able to reach out with the community resources.

Are there similar centres elsewhere in the UK? What about the US? This seems like it would be very beneficial, but only if the people who need it actually can get access.

Promoting social interaction, education, inclusion, and empowerment, are amazing qualities of the community resource center. Helping an individual suffering from a mental illness feel a sense of community and not ostracized can assist with living a normal life. Also, a community center such as Orchard having the ability to prevent individuals from being admitted to a hospital can help that person grow and develop social skills. As we learned in the previous units, mental health is treated as a disease needing diagnosis and cures. The individual with the mental disease is not the focus, and it seems to be the focus at a community resource center.

Resource centres contribute much to mental health development as well as a change factor.

I'm a firm believer in "positive action" - especially in assisting patients with living a normal, functional lifestyle. I like how this center offers "a chance to re-build skills" as well as promoting positive mental health, within the center and the wider community.
