Plasma and formed elements are in blood. Plasma is about 55% of total blood volume. Hemoglobin is a special protein which is within RBC cytoplasm.

the red blood cells are also called RBC's or Erythrocytes, Haemoglobin is a special protein which is found within the RBC cytoplasm , because of it's iron atoms, haemoglobin has a great affinity to oxygen. It will readily pick up oxygen until it is saturated. At this time however haemoglobin will readily give up oxygen in the areas of low concentration. The primary function of RBC's is to carry oxygen to the individual cells of the body.

Blood is made up of plasma and formed elements ,blood transports substances around the body and is known as 'The Vehicle'. Blood is 55% plasma and plasma is made up by a majority of water, this make it easy to transport substances around the body as almost all substance can be dissolved in water, water is often called the universal solvent. Water is able to absorb heat from the body and transport it to the sweat glands enabling to cool the body, To an extent all substances are dissolved or suspended in the water of the plasma. the proteins in the plasma help to maintain the tonicity in the blood. The remainder of the blood is made up of red and white blood cells and platelets, Red blood cells carry oxygen to cell in the body, the shape of RBC's is a biconcave disc, RBC's have a life span of 120 day's. There are several types of white blood cell, WBC's attack foreign them, this is called phagocytosis, when WBC's are over come by foreign bodies they die and form puss. WBC's help to make antibodies. Platelets are the third formed element, there role is in the blood clotting process.

Blood is made up of 55% Plasma and plasma is mostly water, The characteristics of water means it is a very good vehicle because it is a fluid and able to flow through the conduits. Water is also known as the universal solvent as most substances can be dissolved in it, and at ordinary pressure water is essentially non -compressible.
