the capillary beds make the greatest cross-sectional area of the cardiovascular system. The exchange of materials between the blood and the cells of the body takes place in the capillary beds.

The greatest cross sectional area of the cardiovascular system is the capillary beds, it is within the beds that the exchange of materials takes place between the blood and the cells of the body. The capillary walls are made up of a single layer of flat cells , It is the minute spaces between the capillaries and the individual cells of the body make up the tissue space(interstitial/extracellular space)

the capillaries beds make up the greatest cross -sectional are of the cardiovascular system, The exchange of substances between the blood and cells of the body takes place in the capillary beds. capillary walls are made of a single layer of cells. The spaces that surround the capillaries and the individual cells of the body make the tissue space(interstitial/extracellular space). Fluid passes through the capillary into the tissue and takes with it various substances, some of the fluid returns to the capillary on the venous side. Within the capillary beds have precapillary sphincters, these can reduce or stop the flow of blood into the capillary's, at the other end of the capillary beds are postcapillary sphincters, these are able to close which causes a back pressure and allows more fluid to flow into the tissue space.
