Past Continuous /Past Perfect and Past Continuous
Past Continuous Formulation
I was playing/he/she/we/they were playing
Past Perfect Formulation
I had played/you had played/he/she/we had played
Past Perfect Continuous Formulation
I had been playing/ he/she/we/they had been playing
Usage: Past Continuous – Action in progress in the past either
(a) when a sorter action took place
(b) (b) at the precise moment
Example: We were playing cards when she arrived /He was sleeping when the phone rang
Past Continuous Time Line: We were playing Cards when she arrived
Past Perfect: Action that was completed in the past either
(a) Before another action took place
(b) Before a very precise action
Example she arrived after we had played cards /He had slept a little before the phone range
