Physical Education - Classifying information
Classifying information
This information was collected by surveying 50 swimmers on the day of the
pier to pub swim, in 2003. Twenty-five males and twenty-five females in the
age range of 15 to 25 were in the target group.
The above reasons can be classified into the following socio-cultural
reasons for participation:
* geographical location
* peers [1]
* school
* socialisation
* personal challenge
The major factor influencing the younger swimmers (15 to 18) was that of
school. There was no gender [2] difference evident with 80% of both males
and females in this age group offering school as a primary reason for being
involved. This came about primarily through their involvement in the school
swim team and the PE teacher or sport coordinator organising their entries.
Many students travelled down for the day in their respective school mini
buses. An additional, but related factor for this age group, was the
influence of their peer group at school encouraging them to be involved in
the swim, with members of their peer group also involved in the swim team.
* Your discussion should continue in this manner, with an analysis and
explanation of the other relevant factors, and if possible, some division
of the results by gender or age.
* The next stage of the discussion should focus on the reasons the survey
group continued to participate again, analysing and explaining
