Sample report The following sample report shows how one might go about investigating participation rates. Introduction It is known as the Lorne Pier to Pub swim (lornesurfclub.com.au). This swim attracts in excess of 3000 swimmers annually and has a number of participants who have swum more than 10 times. Lorne is a popular summer holiday resort town. The intention of this investigation is to identify some of the reasons that influence people to attempt the swim, and to investigate the reasons people continue to participate in this swim for a number of years. Data from survey / interview This section would contain information similar to the activity you undertook previously on the meaning of biosocial factors. You would need to design a set of survey or interview questions to investigate the factors. You should then collate this data into the percentage influence of each factor. Discussion From your data you should be able to identify the range and relative importance of the factors you identified. From knowledge that you have gained in class and from reading, try to add some detail to these factors and explain how they operate in this specific example. Try to make the report very specific to this group of people or individual. Give details of distances travelled or costs involved in the activity etc. explain how health and fitness reasons influenced them to take up an activity. The reasons identified for initial participation in the pier to pub swim are: the personal challenge of completing a 1.2 km ocean swim the swimming club that they are involved with had a group of people participating took up swimming to improve fitness introduced by being a member of the surf club introduced by friends the swim team at school use it as a training swim staying in Lorne over the holidays and decided to try it out live in the area and decided to try it read about it in the paper and decided to try it
