Intrinsic/extrinsic influences on fitness attitudes: work Work A healthy work force is now seen as a priority for businesses as it reduces the amount of time employees take off on sick leave. Many employers now provide facilities (eg. gymnasiums) at the workplace that can be used before or after work, or even at lunch times. 'A healthy work force is a more productive one.' Unfortunately, long working hours are a barrier to physical activity participation. The introduction of flexi-time, rostered days off, working from home etc. may be helping to give people more time for exercise.
