Summary

An individual's involvement in physical activity and fitness is influenced
by many factors.

All of these extrinsic and intrinsic factors may influence an individual's
and a community's values and attitudes towards physical activity and
fitness.

is a term used to describe or explain how society might influence the
way we use our leisure time. The sports we play, and other leisure time
activities we choose to undertake are influenced by:

* cultural expectations

* parental expectations

* gender stereotypes

* government funding and priorities

* private sector initiatives

* age and expectations

* myths about exercise

* the media and the role models it develops

* sponsorship and its influence over the media coverage of certain sports
