Lack of media means lack of exposure(visibility of codes), therefore the word doesn't get out and people don't realise the benefits, enjoyment or possible satisfaction to be gained,in terms of health and fitness. sponsorship also has has an effect on participation, as it is this brings money into sport.even at local level, small businesses often sponsor teams and help them financially, allowing people to play.however, sponsors can decide to pull out of the deal very easily and that leaves the team needing to find another one or stop playing. Role models motivate young children to start a sport. This is particularly relevant with football and basketball, but also in lifestyle type activities like surfing. For instance, Michael Jordan was rated as the most recognised and admired sportsman in the 90s. This high level of recognition certainly encouraged a lot of teenagers (both boys and girls) to take up basketball. Both electronic and print media can generate role models.

Social class The higher the socio-economic status, the higher the level of involvement in physical activity.
