    Competence, degree of difficulty and risk in outdoor education. Competence degree of difficulty and risk are three elements that measure the adventure experience. Outdoor experiences progress along a continuum of intensity, impact and seriousness. We can place these levels under five headings: 1. Exploration and Experimentation. 2. Adventure 3. Peak Adventure 4. Misadventure 5. Devastation and Disaster These words indicate the experience a person would have at each place on the continuum.
